The Rappel program plays a key role in Forest Fire Management’s multi-agency approach to firefighting. Rapid-response, remote-area firefighters, these crews rappel out of helicopters (mostly Bell 212 and 412 helicopters) into some of the most remote regions on both sides of the great dividing range. My work for these crews tried to capture not just the adventurous nature of the work, but the levity of the crew members—colourful, fun-filled and rightly proud of the work they do.
